IIS7 Media Pack was first announced at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) event. Initially a lot of folks thought that this is a 'lite' version of Windows Media Streaming Services. In reality, IIS7 Media Pack brings in an efficient way of progressive download. With Silverlight, you can integrate the media in one of the two ways: 1) HTTP Progressive Download - This is the least expensive way of taking the media to the web. Just point the Source attribute of the MediaElement to the URI of the media location and Silverlight will start playing the content. 2) Media Streaming Service - The biggest advantage of this approach is that you can hide the actual media source by enabling simple streaming.
